Govt forms committee to draft Bank Resolution Act’26

The government has taken the initiative to draft the “Bank Resolution Act, 2026” to finalize the legal framework for resolving and restructuring troubled institutions in the banking sector.

For this purpose, the Financial Institutions Division of the Ministry of Finance has formed an inter-ministerial committee.

This information was given in an office order issued on Wednesday (April 1). It said that the committee will work to prepare a draft of the new law by scrutinizing and amending the 'Bank Resolution Ordinance, 2015' issued at the initiative of the Financial Institutions Division.

Additional Secretary of the Financial Institutions Division Md. Azimuddin Biswas has been appointed as the convener of the committee.

The members are Joint Secretary of the Finance Division Mohammad Rashedul Amin, Joint Secretary of the Financial Institutions Division Sheikh Farid, Joint Secretary (Drafting) of the Legislative and Parliamentary Affairs Division SM Shafayet Hossain, Joint Secretary of the Financial Institutions Division Farida Yasmin and Deputy Secretary (Drafting) of the Legislative and Parliamentary Affairs Division Mousumi Das.

In addition, Bangladesh Bank Director Md Asaduzzaman Khan, Additional Director Mohammad Nazim Uddin and Additional Director Md Lutful Haider Pasha have been made members.

Joint Secretary of the Financial Institutions Division Mohammad Saidul Islam will serve as the member secretary of the committee.

The office order said that the committee will review the 'Bank Resolution Ordinance' and prepare the draft of the 'Bank Resolution Act, 2026' with necessary amendments within the next four working days.

If necessary, the committee can co-opt additional members and invite relevant organizations or experts to the meeting. Bangladesh Bank will provide secretarial support to the committee.
