Sammilito Islami Bank gets 44C deposits in 2 days

Bangladesh Bank Governor Dr. Ahsan H Mansur said that Sammilito Islami Bank Limited has received new deposits worth Tk44 crore in the last two working days.

At the same time, previous depositors have withdrawn Tk107 crore from the bank. As a result, the bank's net deposit deficit stands at Tk63 crore in total.

The governor gave this information at a press briefing held at Bangladesh Bank on Monday (January 5).

"Sammilito Islami Bank has started regular transaction activities for the last two days. During this period, new deposits of Tk44 crore have come in, which is a reflection of customer confidence."

The governor said that a total of 13,314 transactions were completed at various branches of the bank in the last two working days.

Of this, Tk107.77 crore have been withdrawn, but a significant amount of new deposits have been deposited.

“The new deposits that have arrived are completely liquid. Customers can withdraw money at any time and will also get the specified profit,” he said.

The bank’s chairman Ayub Miah said: “We have been providing full service to customers for two consecutive days. It has been seen in some branches that the tendency to keep deposits is higher than withdrawing money. This is a positive message of confidence in the bank.”

At the press conference, the governor also assured the bank’s employees about their future.

“There is nothing to worry about jobs. Those involved in irregularities will be identified through forensic audit reports and brought under the law. Honest and competent employees among the 12,000 employees will be properly evaluated.”

Regarding the bank’s profit policy, the governor said that the profit rate has been determined by following the market situation and Shariah principles.

According to Bangladesh Bank, new deposits have been deposited in various Islamic banks in the last two days.

Of this, Tk24.26 crore has been deposited in Exim Bank, Tk15.24 crore in Union Bank, Tk3.49 crore in SIBL, Tk48 lakh in First Security Islami Bank, and Tk62 lakh in Global Islami Bank.
