Bangladesh Bank has imposed tighter travel restrictions on bank officials and employees until the 13th national parliamentary elections are held.
The directive aims to prevent administrative disruptions and ensure continuity in banking operations during the election period.
The central bank’s Banking Regulations and Policy Department (BRPD) issued a circular on Wednesday stating that managing directors, chief executive officers, and other officials and employees of banks will not be allowed to travel abroad except for urgent and absolutely essential reasons.
The circular noted that the “limited travel policy” has been implemented to maintain stability and smooth functioning in the banking sector during the election period.
It also highlighted that any vacancy in key administrative positions ahead of the polls could disrupt bank operations.
Bangladesh Bank issued the directive under powers conferred by Section 45 of the Bank Companies Act, 1991, and it takes effect immediately.
