Bangladesh Bank yesterday dismissed the application of former NRB Commercial Bank chairman Farasath Ali to return to the post of directorship.
He was banned by the central bank from the post of directorship of any bank or non-bank financial institution for two years from June 21 last year owing to several irregularities and corruption.
The decision came at the 441st meeting of the central bank board that was presided over by Bangladesh Bank Governor Fazle Kabir.
Ali has applied to the central bank for lifting the ban before the completion of two years.
“He did not fulfill the condition set by the central bank,” said a high official of BB.
Also at the meeting, a special refinancing scheme of Tk1,000 crore has been formulated by the BB to modernise the existing cinema halls.
The owners of the cinema halls will get long-term loans under the scheme.
