Bangladesh's private commercial banks have urged the central bank to raise the interest rate limit on credit cards and stop implementation of the related guideline until January next year.
The bankers want to charge more than 5% on top of the highest interest rate of a consumer loan for credit card use.
A delegation of Association of Bankers, Bangladesh (ABB) placed a set of demands at a meeting with the Bangladesh Bank authorities on Monday. Bangladesh Bank Governor Fazle Kabir presided over the meeting attended by Deputy Governor SK Sur Chowdhury, among other senior officials.
The central bank said it would review the demand and let the bankers know of any decision later, said an official who was present at the meeting.
ABB Chairman Anis A Khan led the delegation which also included Brac Bank MD Selim RF Hussain, Eastern Bank MD Ali Reza Iftekhar and Dhaka Bank MD Syed Mahbubur Rahman.
