A bag containing Tk80 lakh belonging to National Bank Ltd has been lost from a collection vehicle.
A case was filed on the incident, and four people were detained for questioning.
The detainees are an executive officer of National Bank, the driver, and two security guards who were in the vehicle at the time of the theft.
Kotowali Police Officer-in-charge Mizanur Rahman confirmed the matter.
He said that an official of National Bank’s head office, along with two armed security guards, collected the money from various branches in Old Dhaka on Sunday. After collecting the money, the vehicle left for the bank's head office in Motijheel.
When the vehicle reached Babubazar in Old Dhaka, the security guards inside shouted that a bag of money was missing. It contained Tk80 lakh, added the OC.
Following that, the bank official and the guards went to the Islampur branch of the bank, informing both bank authorities and the police about the incident.
OC Mizanur added that Habibur Rahman, senior executive vice-president of National Bank's Dilkusha branch, filed a case to the police station on Sunday night. The four people involved in the incident, including the bank official, have been taken into police custody. However, bank authorities did not mention their names in the case.
The incident still has many unknowns, he said. The detainees are being questioned in detail about the incident.
He added that police were trying to collect CCTV footage of the vehicle at the various places where it had travelled to.
