Bank Asia opens digital banking booth for RMG workers in Gazipur

A new chapter of the country’s banking history has been initiated at the factory of Echotex Ltd in Gazipur, where Bank Asia installed the first ever RMG digital banking booth, a one-of-a-kind banking service to serve the ready-made garments workers.

This is an on-premise special bank where all the workers of Echotex factory will receive effortless banking facilities. Workers no longer need to take a leave for banking, or carry cash, ultimately saving time and expenses.

Chairman of the Executive Committee of the board of Bank Asia Ltd A Rumee A Hossain inaugurated the “Echotex RMG Digital Banking Booth” on Saturday.

Speaking at the event, President and Managing Director of Bank Asia Arfan Ali said: “The RMG digital banking booth will work as a key enabler for achieving the financial inclusion goals of Bangladesh, since the RMG workers are undoubtedly the main active driving force of country’s economic competitiveness, including them in the banking system will deliver a sustainable edge.”

He added that Bank Asia intends to amplify this project to lend a hand to thousands of RMG workers that are contributing to Bangladesh’s growth trajectory.

As a part of this service, every RMG worker will avail an individual bank account where they will get easy and effortless banking facility. Partnering with Bank Asia, 18 RMG factories are currently on the process of including these booths on their factory premises.

“This is a remarkable step in improving the lifestyle of the RMG workers,” said Director of Echotex Mohammad Bin Kashem.
