BB officials demand bigger bonuses

Officials and staff members of Bangladesh Bank (BB) have launched protests after the bank’s latest announcement of incentive gratuity. The protests began at the bank premises in Dhaka’s Motijheel from 11am on Monday and the demonstrations were still ongoing in the afternoon. According to BB sources, the central bank authorities on Sunday night approved the incentive gratuity for the officials and staff members, fixing it at five times of the basic salary of June 2015. However, BB officials began their protests on Monday morning saying that their bonuses should be increased according to the new pay scale announced and set in 2016. Finance Minister AMA Muhith was scheduled to attend a programme at the bank around 4pm, but it was cancelled at the last moment due to the protests.
