Bangladesh Bank sells another $20m to stabilize forex market

Amid growing concerns that the US dollar exchange rate could cross the Tk124 mark, Bangladesh Bank has sold $20 million from the country's foreign exchange reserves.

The central bank sold this foreign currency to commercial banks on Monday, October 19, in an effort to keep dollar prices under control in the market.

A senior official of Bangladesh Bank confirmed the matter to the media.

This marks the second instance of dollar sales from the reserves in the current fiscal year. Earlier on September 14, the central bank had injected $11.5 million into the market.

On Monday, dollars were sold to commercial banks at a rate of Tk123.65 per dollar.

In comparison, the dollar was sold at Tk122.80 per dollar in September.

This indicates that Bangladesh Bank sold dollars at a rate Tk0.85 higher per dollar this time compared to the previous sale.
