Remittance inflows up over 15% in current FY27

Bangladesh has received $8.798 billion in remittances so far in FY27, sent to the country between July 1 and October 3.

This represents a 15.1% increase compared to the $7.643 billion received during the same period of the previous fiscal year.

Executive spokesperson of Bangladesh Bank Arief Hossain Khan confirmed the data on Sunday (October 4).

He noted that the significant growth in remittances was driven by an increase in funds sent home by Bangladeshi expatriate workers during the first few months of the current fiscal year.

According to Bangladesh Bank data, the country’s gross foreign exchange reserves stood at approximately $36.14 billion as of September 29.

Earlier on September 20, total foreign exchange reserves were at $36.30 billion.

According to the International Monetary Fund's (IMF) BPM6 calculation method at that time, the reserve amount was $31.45 billion.

According to the central bank's updated report, remittances worth $1.877 billion arrived in the country during the first 20 days of September.

Of this, expatriates sent $130 million in just three days—from September 17 to 19—compared to $1.869 billion received in the first 19 days of September last year.
