Elite Group of Industries has donated to establish the “Elite Group Serajuddin and Rabeya Seraj Trust Fund” at the University of Dhaka.
The donation cheque was formally handed over to the university authorities on Wednesday at a ceremony attended by Prof ABM Obaidul Islam, vice-chancellor of University of Dhaka, as chief guest.
The program was chaired by Prof M Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, treasurer of the university.
The registrar, deans of the Faculty of Science and the Faculty of Engineering and Technology, along with other senior officials, were also present.
Representing Elite Group were deputy managing director Sajedur Seraj, director Shayaan Seraj, Md Mamun-ur-Rashid, Surma Chowdhury, and other representatives.
The initiative to establish the trust fund was taken following a proposal by Sajedur Seraj.
The fund aims to support students of the University of Dhaka, particularly in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics, contributing to the development of education, research and talent in Bangladesh.
Elite Group, established in 1952 under the leadership of late entrepreneur Serajuddin Ahmed, is one of Bangladesh’s oldest and well-established industrial conglomerates.
Its business operations span paints, steel, garments, resin, refinery, textile chemicals and MTT, with notable brands including Aqua Paints, Elite Steel, Elite Garments, Aqua Resin, Aqua Refinery and Aqua MTT.
The establishment of the trust fund reflects Elite Group’s long-term commitment to education and human resource development and is expected to strengthen its institutional collaboration with the University of Dhaka while supporting future generations through education, research and innovation.
