ShopUp's Mokam Fish expands to Chittagong via Muhuri project

Mokam Fish, a fish distribution business under ShopUp, has expanded its operations to Muhuri in Fulgazi, Feni, establishing a strategic sourcing and distribution hub in one of Bangladesh's largest freshwater aquaculture clusters.

The expansion is part of Mokam Fish's strategy to strengthen fish sourcing and distribution across the Chittagong region.

The Muhuri hub will serve Feni, Comilla, Chittagong, Noakhali and Lakshmipur while enabling more efficient fish collection from production clusters and faster distribution to wholesale and retail markets.

The wider Muhuri aquaculture cluster spans parts of Mirsharai in Chittagong and Feni districts, with an estimated annual production capacity of up to 100,000 tonnes of fish, supported by approximately 5,000 fish farmers across nearly 20,000 acres of water bodies.

The region supplies around 70% of Chittagong’s freshwater fish demand, making it one of Bangladesh's most strategic freshwater fish sourcing locations.

"Muhuri is one of Bangladesh's most important freshwater fish-producing regions, and this expansion strengthens our ability to build a more efficient and reliable supply chain. By working closely with farmers and local partners, we are improving market access while continuing to focus on fair weighing, agreed pricing and payment on time," said Mohammad Hasan Julkernayen, business head, Mokam Fish.

Mokam Fish records more than Tk121 crore in monthly sales through its fish distribution network.

Through its Pangus distribution business, the company has created more than 6,000 direct and indirect jobs, including wholesalers, retailers, transport workers and suppliers.
