Daffodil International University launches AI Research Lab

To further accelerate artificial intelligence-based research, innovation and digital transformation in the country, an Artificial Intelligence (AI) Research Lab has been inaugurated at Daffodil International University (DIU).

On Saturday (July 11), BNP Central Committee Member and Minister of Posts, Telecommunication, IT, Science and Technology Fakir Mahbub Anam MP inaugurated the AI ​​Research Lab and 'AI Project Competition 2026' as chief guest.

On this occasion, he inspected the university's various research activities on information technology education, innovation and artificial intelligence and participated in the prize distribution and closing ceremony among the 6 winning teams.

Chairman of the board of trustees Md Sabur Khan chaired the event, that was addressed by Vice Chancellor of the university Prof MR Kabir.

Among others, deputy vice chancellor Prof Md Masum Iqbal and head of the Department of Computing and Information Systems Prof Md Sarwar Hossain Mollah were also present.

Minister Fakir Mahbub Anam said that this AI Research Lab will become a vibrant center of research, innovation and technological excellence. It will provide students with an opportunity to learn about cutting-edge artificial intelligence technologies, conduct impactful research, create innovative prototypes and invent industry-useful solutions.

He further said: “The visionary initiatives taken by the Bangladesh government in the ICT sector have laid a strong foundation for the country’s digital transformation. As we move forward on the path of building a ‘New Bangladesh’, the government is placing special emphasis on artificial intelligence, innovation, research and building a highly skilled workforce.”

“To realize the dream of building a ‘New Bangladesh’, the government has taken various initiatives to formulate a national AI policy, encourage research and innovation, strengthen the startup ecosystem and equip the youth with future-oriented skills. We firmly believe that universities like Daffodil will serve as one of the country’s most important partners in this journey by producing skilled AI professionals, driving impactful research advancements and real innovation, which will accelerate the growth of Bangladesh’s technology-driven economy.”

Md Sabur Khan said: “We want to build not just an AI-enabled university but an AI-native university. A university where AI will not be used just as a technology; rather, our own AI-based innovations will create effective solutions to real problems of society and the state.”

Daffodil International University hopes that the newly established AI Research Lab will strengthen collaboration between academia, industry and government, build a strong ecosystem based on innovation, and play a meaningful role in building the country’s AI-driven future.
