NBR's revenue collection crosses Tk360,000cr in 11 months of FY26

In the first 11 months (July-May) of the current FY26, revenue collection of the National Board of Revenue (NBR) set a new record, a total of Tk360,000 crore which has surpassed all previous records for the same period.

This information was given in a press release by the NBR on June 21.

It said that in the first 11 months of FY25, Tk327,000 crore was collected in revenue.

Accordingly, Tk32,856 crore more revenue was collected in the same period of the current fiscal, at a growth rate of 10.02%.

However, despite the record amount being collected, there is still a significant shortfall compared to the set target.

The revised revenue collection target of the NBR for the current fiscal year has been set at Tk530,000 crore. The target for the first 11 months was Tk442,840 crore.

Against this, Tk360,642 crore was collected, a deficit of Tk81,442 crore compared to the target. At this time, the target achievement rate is 81.58%.

As per the sector-wise calculation, in the first 11 months of the current fiscal year, revenue collection in the customs sub-division increased by 7.08%, in the VAT sub-division by 10.05% and in the income tax sub-division by 12.54%.

Meanwhile, the NBR collected Tk29,311 crore in revenue in the first 20 days of June. As a result, the total revenue collection till June 20 stands at Tk389,953 crore, which has already surpassed the record of Tk370,843 crore for the entire FY25.

The NBR hopes that if it is possible to collect about Tk25,000 crore more revenue in the last 10 days of June, the total revenue collection in the current fiscal year will exceed Tk415,000 crore.

In that case, although it is about Tk88,000 crore less than the target, it will be Tk43,157 crore more revenue than the previous fiscal, which is the highest in the country's history.

The NBR said that three separate task forces have already been formed to increase the speed of revenue collection, comprising field-level officers from the Income Tax, VAT and Customs divisions.

These task forces are implementing various initiatives to increase tax collection in addition to quickly settling cases pending in the Appeal, Tribunal, High Court, Supreme Court and Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) process.

In addition, the organization claimed that revenue recovery by identifying tax evasion, expeditious settlement of selected audit cases through automated means, strengthening income tax and VAT collection activities at source, post-clearance audit, risk management and integrated audit activities of high-risk taxpayers have created positive momentum in revenue collection.

The NBR says that its vigorous efforts will continue to ensure the necessary revenue collection for the country's development activities and government expenditure.
