Gold prices fall for second straight time, down Tk2,216 per bhori

Gold prices have fallen for the second consecutive time, with the Bangladesh Jewellers Association (Bajus) reducing the price of 22-carat gold by Tk2,216 per bhori (11.664 grams).

Under the new rate, a bhori of 22-carat gold will be sold at Tk226,340.

Bajus announced the revised prices in a notification issued on Saturday morning. The new rates came into effect from 10am the same day.

According to Bajus, the price adjustment was made due to a decline in the price of pure gold in the local market.

Under the revised rates, 21-carat gold will be sold at Tk216,192 per bhori, 18-carat gold at Tk185,691 per bhori and traditional gold at Tk151,690 per bhori.

Earlier, on June 19, Bajus reduced the price of 22-carat gold by Tk4,374 per bhori, bringing it down to Tk228,556. With the latest adjustment, the price of 22-carat gold has fallen by a total of Tk6,590 per bhori in two days.

Bajus said gold prices have been adjusted 78 times in the domestic market so far this year. Of those, prices were increased 39 times, reduced 38 times, while VAT was adjusted once.

Meanwhile, silver prices remain unchanged. A bhori of 22-carat silver is currently being sold at Tk5,249, while 21-carat silver is priced at Tk5,016, 18-carat silver at Tk4,257 and traditional silver at Tk3,208.

Bajus said the rates will remain effective at jewellery shops across the country until further notice. However, making charges will vary depending on the design and craftsmanship of the jewellery. VAT is already included in the selling price and cannot be charged separately.

Industry insiders said the recent decline in global gold prices has started to influence the local market. If international prices remain stable, further adjustments may follow in the coming days.
