Finance minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury announced a new pay scale for government officials and employees in his budget speech on Saturday, ending an 11-year wait for revisions.
He said: “The same pay scale has remained in place for almost 11 years. During this time, the cost of living has risen significantly due to inflation. Therefore, a new pay scale will be implemented in phases from July 1.”
The announcement drew strong interest among government employees.
Finance Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury unveiled the proposed national budget for the 2026–27 fiscal year in parliament on Thursday. The proposed budget, the first under the current government, has an outlay of Tk938,000 crore.
