Finance Minister: Will formulate FY27 budget with everyone in mind

The next national budget is being formulated with the aim of ensuring economic participation of every person in the country and bringing the benefits of development to the doorsteps of the general public, said Finance Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury.

He also said that the government wants to put the economy on a strong foundation by increasing investment and employment and also bring the benefits of development to people from all walks of life.

He said these while talking to reporters after an emergency meeting with the Prime Minister at the Secretariat on Wednesday.

The minister said: “The next budget is being given keeping in mind every person in the country. We want to ensure everyone’s participation in the economy through the budget. At the same time, special importance is being given to ensuring that the benefits of the budget reach the common people.”

He said the government wants to build an inclusive economic structure where the benefits of development will not be limited to any specific group; rather, people from all classes and professions of the society will enjoy its benefits. To implement this goal, necessary initiatives and incentives are being included in the budget, taking into account the needs and potential of different sectors.

The finance minister said that the country's economy has moved away from the path of debt-dependent growth in the past and is now being emphasized on building a production, employment and investment-based economy.

He also commented that there is no alternative to increasing investment to ensure economic stability in the long term.

"The country must be brought out of debt dependence. Expansion of the productive sector and increase in private sector investment are essential to build a sustainable foundation for the economy."

Mentioning employment creation as one of the government's priorities, the minister said that without employment, the benefits of economic growth cannot be delivered to the people. Therefore, in addition to increasing investment in the new budget, the issue of creating new employment will also receive special importance.

Chowdhury said that the government wants to create an investment-friendly environment where domestic and foreign entrepreneurs can invest with confidence. If investment increases, production will increase, new employment will be created and the overall momentum of the economy will be stronger.

Regarding the current economic situation of the country, the finance minister said that the economy is still facing various challenges due to past irregularities, corruption, and looting. Although the impact of these problems remains in various sectors, the government is continuously implementing reform programs and working towards restoring the economy.

He expressed optimism that despite the existing challenges, the new budget will usher in positive changes in the country's economy.

The government has plans to make the economy more dynamic through investment-friendly policies, development of the productive sector and increase in employment, he added.
