Ahead of the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha, the government has set a new price for sacrificial animal rawhide.
This time, the price of salted cow skin per square foot in Dhaka has been increased by Tk2 compared to last year.
In addition, the government has announced initiatives to distribute free salt to preserve the skin and take training for the concerned.
Commerce Minister Khandaker Abdul Muktadir told reporters after a meeting to ensure proper management of sacrificial matters at the Ministry of Commerce on Wednesday (May 13).
According to the new price, the price of salted cow skin per square foot in Dhaka has been set at Tk62 to Tk67, which was Tk60 to Tk65 last year.
The price of salted cow skin per square foot outside Dhaka has been set at Tk57 to Tk62, which was Tk55 to Tk60 last year.
Meanwhile, the price of salted goat skin has been fixed at Tk25 to Tk30 per square foot and goat skin at Tk22 to Tk25. This price of goat skin will remain the same across the country.
The minister also said that the government has taken special initiatives to ensure that skin is not wasted.
He said that this time too, the government will distribute salt worth Tk17.6 crore free of cost. This salt will be supplied to traders, mosques and madrasas so that skin can be preserved quickly after the sacrifice.
He said that training arrangements will also be made through the district and upazila administrations for the concerned to increase their skills in preserving skin.
The minister said that the government is working in a coordinated manner to ensure that no skin is wasted after the sacrifice.
