Tamara Hasan Abed named commissioner to global development coalition

Tamara Hasan Abed, managing director of Brac Enterprises, has been appointed as a Commissioner to the Future of Development Cooperation Coalition, a high-level global initiative bringing together leaders from government, finance, business and civil society to reshape development cooperation.

The coalition, co-hosted by the African Center for Economic Transformation and the Center for Global Development, aims to develop forward-looking solutions to key global challenges such as economic transformation, climate change, technological disruption and inclusive growth.

It is co-chaired by Yemi Osinbajo and Arancha González Laya.

Abed has played a significant role in advancing market-based approaches to development through Brac’s social enterprises, expanding their reach and impact across Bangladesh.

Her appointment reflects her leadership in social enterprise and highlights Bangladesh’s growing role in global development discussions.

She is expected to contribute insights drawn from large-scale, community-driven initiatives in the Global South.

Over the next year, the Commissioners will work to align development partnerships with national priorities, mobilize public and private financing, strengthen regulatory systems and harness innovation to improve development outcomes.

Their first in-person meeting is scheduled to take place in Washington, DC, during the upcoming World Bank–IMF Spring Meetings.

The coalition includes a diverse group of international figures with expertise in climate finance, governance, digital innovation and private sector development, underscoring its broad, multidisciplinary approach to global challenges.
