Gold price rises by Tk6,590 per bhori

Gold prices have increased in the domestic market, with the Bangladesh Jewellers Association (Bajus) raising the price of 22-carat gold by Tk6,590 per bhori to Tk252,408.

The decision was taken at an emergency meeting of Bajus’s Standing Committee on Pricing and Price Monitoring on Tuesday. A notification was issued following the meeting.

According to the association, the new prices came into effect at 10am on Wednesday across jewellery stores nationwide.

Bajus said the adjustment was made due to a rise in the prices of pure gold and silver in the international market.

Under the revised rates, 22-carat gold will be sold at Tk252,408 per bhori, up from Tk245,818.

The price of 21-carat gold has been set at Tk240,919 per bhori, while 18-carat gold will be sold at Tk206,255 per bhori. The price of traditional gold has been fixed at Tk168,123 per bhori.

According to Bajus, the per-gram price of 22-carat hallmarked gold is Tk21,640, 21-carat gold Tk20,655, and 18-carat gold Tk17,705.

In addition, the price of silver has been set at Tk505 per gram for 22-carat, Tk480 for 21-carat, and Tk410 for 18-carat.

Bajus said the new prices will remain effective until further notice. It also instructed jewellery traders to collect the 5% VAT set by the government from customers and deposit it in the state treasury.
