The United Nations Development Program (UNDP) Bangladesh, with support from The Coca-Cola Foundation (TCCF) and in collaboration with local government authorities, has launched a three-day post-Eid cleanliness awareness campaign in Cox’s Bazar from March 24–26.
The initiative is being implemented under the Plastics Circularity Project, covering Laboni and Sugandha beach points.
Organized with the cooperation of the Cox’s Bazar District Administration and other local stakeholders, the campaign aims to reduce the surge of plastic waste on the beach following Eid celebrations, promote responsible waste management practices, and protect the marine ecosystem and tourism economy of the world’s longest natural sea beach.
The campaign was officially inaugurated on March 24 at Laboni Point, Cox’s Bazar.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Md A Mannan, deputy commissioner of Cox’s Bazar; Md Shamsul Al Imran, administrator of Cox’s Bazar Municipality; Sardar M Asaduzzaman, assistant resident representative of UNDP Bangladesh; along with other distinguished guests.
A range of activities are being carried out under the campaign, including awareness rallies, direct engagement with tourists, business owners, shopkeepers, and hotel operators, as well as the installation of new waste bins at key entry points.
In addition, 30 youth volunteers and 20 cleaning personnel are working daily on the ground.
They are responsible for collecting plastic waste, measuring its volume, and ensuring its proper handover to local recyclers.
As part of long-term support, a total of 30 waste bins have been formally handed over to the Tourist Police.
Through this initiative, organizers expect a visible reduction in post-Eid plastic waste on the beach, increased public awareness, and strengthened coordination among stakeholders involved in tourism and waste management.
