The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has taken the initiative to auction a total of 378 container goods to reduce the congestion at Chittagong Port by removing the undeclared goods that have been lying idle for a long time.
The agency said that these goods will be sold through a completely digital e-auction system.
A press release by the NBR on Sunday (March 15) said that the Chittagong Customs House regularly sells undeclared goods through auctions with the aim of reducing the container congestion at the port, reducing security risks, preventing wastage of state resources and increasing the efficiency of the port.
In continuation of this, an initiative has been taken to sell 378 container goods through e-auction in March 2026.
As per Special Order No. 82/2025/Customs issued by NBR, a total of 180 containers of goods in 49 lots will be auctioned under e-auction-2/2026.
These goods include various types of chemicals, machineries, plastic scrap, art paper, bitumen, fabrics, household items and vehicle parts and other items. No reserved value has been fixed for these goods.
On the other hand, as per Standing Order No. 91/Customs/2025/123, a total of 198 containers of goods in 74 lots will be auctioned under e-auction-3/2026.
These goods include various types of capital machineries, passenger elevators, metal scrap, kraft liner paper and other goods.
The entire process will be conducted digitally to ensure transparency and accountability in the auction process. Interested bidders have been given the opportunity to inspect the goods on-site throughout the month of March.
At the same time, a system has been set up to submit tenders online.
Interested buyers can register on the e-auction portal of Bangladesh Customs and submit tenders online from home.
However, along with bidding, the security deposit pay order and necessary documents will have to be submitted in the designated tender box. The highest bidders will have to unload the goods as per the Import Policy Order 2021-2024.
NBR said that the tender box for e-auction-2/2026 will be opened on March 31, 2026 at 2 pm and the tender box for e-auction-3/2026 will be opened on April 8, 2026 at 2 pm.
The organization says that such auction activities will continue in the future to reduce container congestion at Chittagong Port.
