Gold prices rise again

Gold prices have increased again in the domestic market, with Bajus announcing new rates effective from Monday.

The price of 22-carat gold has been set at Tk261,040 per bhori, marking an increase of Tk2,216 from the previous day. The price of 21-carat gold has been fixed at Tk249,143 per bhori, up by Tk2,100.

On Sunday, 22-carat gold was sold at Tk258,824 per bhori, while 21-carat gold was priced at Tk247,043 per bhori.

Bajus said the decision was taken at an emergency meeting of its Standing Committee on Pricing and Price Monitoring on Monday morning, in view of the rise in the price of pure gold. The new rates came into effect from 10am.

Under the revised prices, 22-carat hallmarked gold jewellery will be sold at Tk22,380 per gram and 21-carat at Tk21,360 per gram. The price of 18-carat gold jewellery has been fixed at Tk18,310 per gram, while traditional gold jewellery will be sold at Tk14,985 per gram.

Bajus has also set new prices for silver jewellery. The price of 22-carat silver has been fixed at Tk545 per gram, 21-carat at Tk520 per gram and 18-carat at Tk445 per gram. Traditional silver jewellery will be sold at Tk335 per gram.

The association said the new rates will remain effective at all jewellery shops across the country until further notice. A 5% value-added tax, as set by the government, will be added to the selling price and deposited in the state treasury.

Dr Dewan Aminul Islam Shaheen, chairman of Bajus’s Standing Committee on Pricing and Price Monitoring, confirmed the decision.
