Inflation falls slightly in June, but still over 9.5%

Bangladesh's inflation rate dropped slightly to 9.72% in June, from 9.89% in May, marking a 0.17 percentage decline, according to Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) data released on Sunday.

It was still, however, above the 9.5%-mark. Last year in June, the country's inflation rate was 9.74%.

Finance Minister Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali on June 6 had revealed an inflation target of 6.5% for FY25, while presenting a Tk797,000 crore national budget to Parliament.

In June, food inflation stood at 10.42%, down from 10.76% in May.

Meanwhile, non-food inflation in June was recorded at 9.15%, slightly lower than 9.19% in May.

Recent data from the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS), released on June 3, showed that food price inflation hit 10.76% in May, up from 10.22% in April.

Food inflation had exceeded 12% for three consecutive months starting last August before easing to single digits by December.

It jumped by 54 basis points to 10.76% in May from 10.22% in April, while non-food inflation slipped 15 basis points to 9.19% from 9.34% in April.

In November last year, it was 10.76%, which dipped to below 10% in December.

In October last year, the inflation rate was 9.93%.
