In Bangladesh, Yamaha’s R15, Suzuki’s GSX-R, and Honda’s CBR have developed a dedicated fan base. These three sports bikes have been the top choices since they were first introduced. Although higher CC bikes are now available, these three models remain unparalleled for their blend of style, performance, fuel efficiency, and features.
Let's dive into the specifications of the latest models of these top three sports bikes.
Yamaha YZF-R15
The 150cc version of the flagship R1 was first launched in 2008. The current version (4.0) was launched in 2021 with various graphics including one iconic red and white 60th anniversary edition of WGP. The latest model of R15 has a 155cc engine with 18.1bhp. The engine has an 11.6:1 compression ratio which can unleash more power than other bikes in the segment.
Its 11-litre fuel tank and expected 40-45kmpl mileage can help a rider to go almost 400 km without the need to refuel. Wheelbase of R15 is 1325mm. The bike has a ground clearance of 170mm (6.7 inches) and the saddle is at 815mm (33 inches), The current price of R15 V4 starts at Tk600,000 but one can purchase the older V3 at Tk499,000.
Suzuki GSX-R
GSX-R is undoubtedly the fastest bike in Bangladesh with top speeds ranging from 155-175kmph. GSX-R is the only keyless ignition of these three. This means instead of a traditional key, GSX-R uses a remote to operate the bike. GSX-R seat is a bit lower than the R15 with a ground clearance of 165mm (6.5 inches).
The engine displacement of GSX-R is 147.3cc which is the smallest of the three. The Wheelbase of GSX-R is 1300mm. The GSX-R is expected to give around 35-40kmpl mileage. The weight of GSX-R is 135kg. The current price of GSX-R is BDT 465,950.
Honda CBR 150R
CBR became the fan favourite with its sport-influenced Repsol (MotoGP) version. The engine displacement of CBR is 149.16cc. The reverse suspension of CBR gives a smoother ride to enjoy.
The bike releases a power of 16.87bhp that truely thrills riders. CBR’s front brake diameter is 276mm and the rear is 220mm. CBR is expected to reach a top speed of 140km. The fuel tank of CBR is bigger than the other two at 12 litres. CBR has a wheelbase of 1310mm. The ground clearance of CBR is the lowest of all at 160mm (6.2 inches). CBR started to feature its iconic dual headlights in 2019.
Currently, CBR is available in three colours, which are Tricolor, Victory Red/Black and MotoGP edition. The price of CBR starts at Tk600,000.
Why these three?
Apart from being fan favourites, these three also share some features. The first is six-speed gears. Actively liquid-cooled engines are found in all three. All of these bikes only use self-start and do not have a kickstart option. All three use a maintenance-free battery to remove the hassle of topping up.
Most importantly, all three use an Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) which prevents wheels from locking up and bikes from skidding when the brake is harshly applied.
All of them use newer fuel injection technology instead of older carburettors. The front suspensions of these bikes are telescopic and each uses a slightly different mono-shock suspension in the rear. All of them are equipped with tubeless tyres to reduce the hassle of puncture.
Which one is best?
There is no definite answer as to which is the winner of this segment. Each bike has a specific feature that makes it unique. On social media, fans always take sides of their personal favourite on debates but it's undebatable that all three bikes are in the top spot when someone considers a full-faired sports bike in the country.
