Sanitary napkins, diapers may remain affordable

For the protection of women and children, Finance Minister Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali has proposed an extension on the exemption of Value Added Tax (VAT) and supplementary duty on the import of raw materials of sanitary napkins and diapers.

“I am presenting the following proposal to ensure the health services of the people of the country: I propose to extend the tenure of exemption from Value Added Tax (excluding AT) and Supplementary duty (where applicable) on import of certain raw materials used in the production of sanitary napkins and diapers, for the protection of women and children, till June 30, 2025,” said the minister while presenting the budget for FY25.

Finance Minister Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali presented the proposed budget for the 2024-2025 fiscal year amounting to Tk797,000 crore (Tk7.97 trillion) in parliament on Thursday.

This was his first budget unveiling and also the first budget after the reelection of the Awami League government in January.
