As part of integrating its other businesses, Deshbandhu Group aims to set up the largest polyester project in Bangladesh to accelerate investment in the polyester sector.
In line with that, Deshbandhu is setting up a 1,600 TPD continuous polymerization (CP) unit with a downstream unit of 1,200 TPD bottle grade chips and 400 TPD textile-grade chips.
Hence, Deshbandhu Group signed contract of PSF and PET industries with China National Chemical Engineering International Co Ltd and Chemtex (China) Engg Co Ltd recently.
The proposed site is set on 33 acres of land at Powerpack Economic Zone, Mongla in Bagerhat.
At the signing ceremony, the chief guest was Senior Secretary and Beza Executive Chairman Sheikh Yusuf Harun.
Others included executive member planning and development, Beza Saleh Ahmed, Chairman of Deshbandhu Group Golam Mostafa, Vice President CNCEC Lu Zhiyuan, Acting President, Chemtex (Shanghai) Chemical Engineering Limited Li Ming, Additional Managing Director and Group CFO MA Bashir Ahmed, COO Powerpack Economic Zone Syed Kamrul Islam Mohan, Director Powerpack Economic Zone M Salahuddin and other top officials of Deshbandhu Group, BEZA, CNCEC, Chemtex and PowerPac.
Due to the growing demand for textiles and polyester in the region, there will be a need to set up continuous polymerization and downstream processing units.
The polyester chips thus produced will be used as feedstock and supplied to downstream industries for manufacturing various types of polyester textiles/garments/containers/packaging.
These downstream industries include handloom, knitting, wet processing, garments etc. It will be one of the largest catering industries in Bangladesh globally.
In view of the huge demand for textiles and garments in Bangladesh and its neighboring countries, this polyester project will consist of Continuous Polymerization (CP) unit, chips manufacturing unit and associated downstream units.
MEG and PTA are the two main feedstocks for the proposed CP unit which is further converted into man-made fibers/yarns is transformed.
Both the feedstocks are imported into the country and Deshbandhu plans to tap the value addition opportunity of the feedstock.
