National Board of Revenue chairman Abu Hena Md Rahmatul Muneem on Sunday said that ongoing political unrest might affect achieving revenue collection target set for FY24.
He expressed his concerns while attending as chief guest at the inaugural program of a tax service booth at TSC near Dhaka University area in the capital.
If the economy is hampered by the ongoing political tensions in the country, it will definitely have a negative impact on revenue collection and it will face challenges, he also said.
Political tensions may impact both value-added tax and customs duty collection as both local consumption and import and export may feel the impact in coming days, the NBR chairman further said.
He also said that there was an opportunity to submit returns after November 30 but taxpayers would not be eligible for enjoying any tax benefits including tax exemption rebates as per the new law and the return must be paid along with the penalty.
Taxpayers can receive services from the TSC tax service booth till November 21 from 9:00am to 4:00pm every day.
