Bangladesh Rural Electrification Board (BREB) signed a contract with Oculin Tech BD and SQ Wires and Cables Co for the Advance Metering Infrastructure (AMI) system, which includes the procurement of 0.49 million meters and system implementation for 5 million meters on Thursday.
The project is awarded to the JV consortium of Oculin Tech BD Ltd. as the lead bidder and SQ Wires and Cables Co through an open tendering method (OTM), reads a press release.
This project was approved by CCGP (The Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase) on April 12, 2023.
Md Selim Uddin, chairman of BREB, members, chief engineers, EDs, controller, PD, senior GM of concern PBS'S, and other officials attended the program.
On behalf of Oculin Tech, Shadab Sajid, managing director, Miran Ali, chairman, K Rumman Akhter, CTO and director and Md Hasan Imam, executive vice president and other officials of Oculin Tech were present at the signing ceremony.
AZM Shofiuddin, chairman of SQ Wires and Cables Co was present as well.
During the agreement signing, BREB Chairman Selim Uddin expressed his gratitude towards the Prime Minister and the State Minister of Power Energy and Mineral Resources and said that this project will bring several benefits to both consumers and BREB.
This is the largest digitalization project for electrical utility sectors in Bangladesh where 0.49 million meters will be procured, and the system infrastructure will be developed for 5 million meters.
Shadab Sajid, managing director of Oculin Tech BD thanked BREB for initiating this project. He stated that AMI is an integrated system of equipment, communications and information management systems for the utilities to remotely collect consumer data in real time.
During his comment, he also mentioned that by implementing this project, BREB will be able to achieve aggregate consumption data and streamline the real-time billing system, enhance revenue collection, load management and effective customer services.
In addition, the consumers of BREB can directly monitor their real-time consumption and pay their bills via mobile apps and customer portals at any time.
Oculin Tech, a leading technology company, and SQ Wires and Cables, a renowned provider of electrical solutions, have formed a partnership to deliver an Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) system for 17 Palli Bidyut Samity (PBS) out of 88 PBS encompassing 0.49 million meters. Wi-SUN Compliant RF Mesh Technology will be utilized for Meter Data Communications.
