HSBC, IBA award young talents of Bangladesh with future skills

The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Limited in Bangladesh in partnership with the Institute of Business Administration, University of Dhaka recently organised the finale and award-giving ceremony of the “Business Case Competition 2023”. 

Three teams from Bangladesh were selected as the champion, runners-up and second runner-up winners from five finalist teams. 

This year, the local competition featured a total of 160 participants from universities all across Bangladesh, reads a press release.

M Tofazzel Hossain Miah, principal secretary to Prime Minister, Prime Minister's Office, was present as the chief guest and Abu Farah Md Nasser, deputy governor, Bangladesh Bank graced the event as a special guest.

Md Mahbub ur Rahman, CEO of HSBC Bangladesh and Prof Mohammad A Momen, director, Institute of Business Administration (IBA), University of Dhaka was also attended the programme.

The judging panel included Dr Anil Kumar Das, national consultant (Programme), Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations; Uzma Chowdhury, CPA, director, Pran-RFL Group; Syed Javed Noor, deputy managing director, IDLC Finance Limited and Zahidul Islam, managing director, Bayer CropScience Ltd.

The qualifying teams consisted of students from the leading universities of Bangladesh. 

At the finale, the participants were given a business case on food security and were asked to present their solutions and recommendations to the judges panel. 

Commenting on the programme, Md Mahbub ur Rahman said: "The Business Case Competition gives an opportunity to showcase the promising youth of Bangladesh to the world and HSBC is proud to support their ambition of becoming competent leaders who will support a prosperous Bangladesh. This year celebrates the 10th anniversary of this initiative engaging with Next Gen so as to enhance their future skills and thereby accelerate the sustainable development of Bangladesh.”  

The Business Case Competition is a part of HSBC's flagship Future Skills activity in Asia Pacific and aims to enhance university students' business skills and broaden their global perspectives by taking their education out of the classroom and into a live competition format. 

 The winning teams of the HSBC-IBA Business Case Competition 2023 are: 

The champions, Team Khichuri from the Institute of Business Administration, University of Dhaka consists of Mohtasim Bin Habib, Mashrif Hasan Adib, Abir Ershad and Shubhashish Chakraborty.

The Runners-up team, Team Navigators from Bangladesh University of Professionals consists of Farhan Israq Haque, Shahriar Zahid Mormo, Fayeza Fahmida and Raiyaan Ehab Shams.

The second runner-up, Team Taking Over from the Faculty of Business Studies, University of Dhaka consists of Towsif-Ur-Rahman, Kazi Anika Arefin, Md Kawser Alam and Md Istiaz Uddin.

The champion, runners-up and second runner-up winners received team development funds of Tk200,000; Tk100,000 and Tk50,000 respectively. 

In addition to Bangladesh, the following HSBC markets in the Asia Pacific region are also conducting local business case competitions: Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Mainland China, Japan, Korea, Malaysia and Mauritius. 

The winning team from Bangladesh will participate in the regional finale to be hosted in Hong Kong, where participants from other countries will compete.
