Bangladesh to hold road shows in EU, Latin America in December

Bangladesh intends to hold multiple road shows in different European and Latin American countries before the end of this year, including Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxemburg, Brazil and Argentina, to attract more investments.

Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (Bida), Dutch-Bangla Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DBCCI), and Latin America-Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LABCCI) all agreed to host the two-week shows, sources said.

The investment road show is expected to be held from December 3-17 to attract foreign direct investment (FDI) which may be a great opportunity for European and Latin American businessmen to invest in the potential sectors in Bangladesh, read a document.

It aims to explore and promote Bangladeshi products and services in the Benelux and Latin American region, and also to promote business from Benelux and Latin America region to the emerging Bangladesh Market.

The DBCCI and Benelux partners, among others, will sponsor rounds of the show, including all arrangements, in this regard, according to the Bida document.

The European Union (EU) is a single market of 28 member countries where Bangladeshi products enjoy duty-free and quota-free access under the GSP/EBA.

An estimated 54.34% of the country's total export earnings come from the EU countries.

The EU is a major export destination for the country's apparel items.

On the other hand, Bangladesh has enormous untapped trade potential in the member states of the MERCOSUR bloc, including Brazil and Argentina.

There have been good trade ties between Bangladesh and Brazil for years. Brasilia is interested in increasing trade with Dhaka.

The potential ties with the South American trading bloc of Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, Uruguay and Venezuela will benefit Bangladesh's trade.

Mercosur can be a potential export market for Bangladeshi goods, especially garment products.

There is a huge possibility to export items like apparel, pharmaceuticals, plastics, tobacco, tableware, leather and leather goods, and textiles.

Mercosur is a very big trade zone with a possibility of increasing Bangladeshi exports to its member states if duty tariff is reduced to zero, reveals a recent official study.
