The annual transaction of the Hazaribagh leather cluster at present is about Tk 60 crore, said the SME Foundation.
Mafizur Rahman, managing director of the foundation, said that there was a huge possibility of generating more employment in this cluster and collecting foreign currency.
More than 400 shops, showrooms and factories have been set up in different places, including around Institute of Leather Engineering & Technology, Hazaribagh Bazar and Dhanmondi 15 areas, the foundation said in a press release on Wednesday.
Various types of products including leather belts, wallets, shoes, parts and official bags are made in the cluster.
The businesses there also export to some Middle Eastern countries, the United States and Italy, it said.
