International Chamber of Commerce elects its first woman chair

The 212th world council of the International Chamber of Commerce was held in Mexico on June 14. The Council unanimously elected its Vice-Chair Maria Fernanda Garza as the first woman chair of ICC for a two-year term from July 1 to June 30.

Maria is the CEO of Orestia, a manufacturing home improvement solutions company that exports to the USMCA region, Latin America and Asia and was the chair of ICC Mexico from 2014 to 2020, according to a press release.

The council also elected Philippe Varin as the first vice-chair of ICC, who is the chair of ICC France; Prof Dr Nayla Comair-Obeid, partner, Obeid Law Firm in Lebanon; and Harsh Pati Singhania, vice chair and managing director of JK Paper Ltd in India as vice-chairs of ICC.

ICC Bangladesh President Mahbubur Rahman, Vice President AK Azad and Secretary General Ataur Rahman attended the council virtually.
