Government forms body to oversee export activities

The government has formed a national export committee to oversee export activities and take necessary measures to tackle existing and possible crises and post-graduation challenges.

The 44-member committee, headed by the Prime Minister, consists of 11 ministers, principal secretary at the Prime Minister's Office (PMO), the Bangladesh Bank governor, the chairman of the National Board of Revenue (NBR) and nine secretaries from relevant ministries.

The Ministry of Commerce (MoC) on Friday issued a gazette notification in this regard.

Executive chairmen of Bangladesh Investment Development Authority, Bangladesh Export Processing Zones Authority and Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority, and vice chairman of Export Promotion Bureau are also the members of the committee.

Chiefs of 16 trade bodies, including Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association and Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association, are also inducted in the committee.

The committee will scrutinize the export related issues to increase export earnings and recommend the required measures in this regard.

It will also discuss the current and possible crises and the post-graduation challenges, and recommend and decide the necessary steps accordingly.
