Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh on Tuesday asked officials concerned to expand their monitoring activities to prevent price hike of essentials.
“The DSCC has formed a standing committee on market price observation, monitoring and controlling for the first time, and the committee has already conducted drives in many markets and kitchen markets,” Taposh said.
He made the remarks while addressing a views-exchange meeting at the Nagar Bhaban.
The committee comprises representatives of the Commerce Ministry, the Safe Food Authority, and local administration. “It will monitor the markets under the DSCC and expand it with necessary implementation,” Taposh said.
The mayor also slammed those involved in manipulating the prices of essential commodities fixed by the Commerce Ministry and the Department of Agricultural Marketing.
He asked the committee to ensure that the daily essentials were indeed sold according to the price fixed by the government.
