Recently, there have been several posts seen on social media where it was claimed that “seats are empty in Biman aircraft, but there are no tickets available.” Such statements are creating confusion among the people.
Biman Bangladesh sent a press release on Thursday where they explained the matter.
According to the press release, Biman has to follow rules and restrictions imposed by the Civil Aviation Authority Bangladesh due to the ongoing Covid-19 situation.
Following the instructions of the Civil Aviation Authority Bangladesh, Biman needs to keep some seats empty like other airlines due to Covid-19 restrictions.
Civil Aviation Authority Bangladesh sent a new set of instructions on March 8, 2022, according to which the back seats are kept empty in Dash 8-400 and Boeing 737-800 aircraft.
Moreover, it is mandatory to keep 5% or 14 seats empty in Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner. For Boeing 787-9, the number of empty seats is 15 and for Boeing 777-300ER, the number of empty seats is 42.
There are other reasons behind empty seats on a flight including the passengers not being able to arrive at the airport on time or the passengers getting testing positive with Covid-19 and not being able to show up.
Due to a lack of knowledge regarding the restrictions of empty seats, many people often take videos of the empty seats and such videos get viral on social media.
Biman Bangladesh asked for support from everyone to remove all the confusion regarding empty seats.
