Prices of cooking oil have been volatile in the international markets during the last three months, with no sign of stabilizing in the coming weeks.
The global price of crude soybean oil was $1,420 on Thursday.
Brazil is the leading exporter of the commodity to Bangladesh.
Global soybean price was $977.74 a tonne, which was $1,318.2 a month back, while soybean oil was $1,277 per tonne on December 20 last year.
Price of crude palm oil was $1,376 per tonne in the international markets. Malaysia is a major exporter of the commodity to Bangladesh.
The price of the commodity was $1,300 a month back, and $980 a year back, showing 5.85% and 40.41% year-on-year hikes respectively.
Visiting Karwan Bazar kitchen market in the capital on Friday, the price of bottled 5-litre soybean oil of different brands was Tk750-775.
Sonia Shampa, a housewife from Kallyanpur, said that high soybean oil prices were adding burden on limited income consumers like her.
However, prices of wheat and pulse are showing a downward trend, reliable sources revealed.
Wheat price was $300.93 per tonne in the international market on Thursday, against $377.73 a month back and $281.46 a year back, showing a 20.33% drop and 6.92% rise respectively.
Commonwealth Independent States (CIS) are the main producers of the commodity.
Rice prices continued its upward trend in the global market on Thursday, selling at $426 per tonne, against $401 per tonne a month back, and $539 per tonne a year back, showing a 6.23% rise and 20.96% drop respectively.
Crude sugar sold for $407.19 per tonne on Thursday, against $424.83 a month back, and $348.77 a year back, a 4.15% drop and 16.75% rise respectively.
Brazil is the main exporter of the commodity to Bangladesh.
The price of refined sugar in the internal market was hovering around $500.75 per tonne on Thursday, against $509.19 per tonne a month and $455.35 per tonne a year back, showing a 1.66% drop and 9.97% rise respectively.
The price of Masoor pulse was selling at $539.72 on Thursday, against $621.41 a month and $720.20 a year back, showing a 13.15% and 25.06% drop respectively.
