People’s attention span is shrinking, and everywhere we look on social media, one thing or the other is vying for our attention.
The way we consume the news too is changing, people don’t want to read long headlines and even longer stories, they want shorter versions of the news.
Shadman Sharar Haque, co-founder of Nutshell Today talks to Dhaka Tribune about the merger of Cablgram and Nutshell and how it’s taken over social media.
Both the platforms have been heavily involved in curating news in short forms, making it easier for people to be informed on topics they feel connected to and both the platforms have been relying on precise and to-the-point forms of content even before their merger.
“When I sat down with the founder of Cablgram, Shihab, we both quickly realized we want to change the consumption pattern of local media consumers and leverage the western form of media tools and content,” Shadman said.
“We formed Tyger media as our visions matched, and both the platforms currently reside under it, still working as separate platforms for now, with their own individual teams, consisting of undergraduate students,” he added.
The platform wants to upscale its authentication and verification process in the future, which according to Shadman, is one of its core values.
Cablgram and Nutshell have 20- 25 people working every day along with volunteers who help with designing and writing as well.
Since the curation of news requires massive effort and multiple teams are required to verify that news, the platform is limited to fewer posts (6-7 posts a day) in comparison to the publishing houses, he said.
“Automation hence is crucial as we want to massively curate and create content, to keep our readers informed as much as we can. There’s a ton of information out there and streamlining the content such as that of copywriting will get easier if automated.”
Discussing their future plans with Tyger media, he said that the platform does not want to limit itself with social media posters but also create more videos as well as more 3D content, podcasts, and utilize other westernized and globalized tools to inform people as much as possible.
“We are also not only limiting ourselves to English content, as ‘Prokash’--another platform of ours helps provide information to people in Bangla,” he added.
Like other news platforms, Tyger Media generates revenue through advertisements which usually comes in the form of paid content or press releases.
