The import of green chillies from India has started through the mediation of the Ministry of Commerce to keep the supply and price of chillies to stabilize prices.
Essential Import Permits (IPs) have already been issued to the importers.
All these fresh chillies are being imported through Bhomra and Sonamasjid land ports.
Importer JK Enterprise is importing all these raw chillies from India through this land port. Two trucks of which have already entered Bangladesh via Bhomra on Monday. Another 12 trucks are in the process of entering.
Along with this, three other importers are importing another 650 metric tonnes of raw chillies through Sonamasjid land port. Among them, BH Trading & Co. is importing 150 metric tons, Golden Enterprise 200 metric tons and Sajjad Enterprise 300 metric tons, which is due to enter Bangladesh within August 10.
The government will issue the necessary import permits (IPs) to keep the supply and price of raw chillies steady in the country.
The price of Green chillies had an abnormal hike, from Tk100 per kg the week before, to Tk200-240.
Prices of essential cooking ingredients continued to remain high this past week, as its traders still blame it on the ongoing strict lockdown and the excessive downpour.
