imo launches multiple account support for Bangladeshi users

Communication platform imo recently introduced multiple account support, which allows users to switch between up to five user accounts on one handset and easily log into their accounts.

This new feature, launched specifically for Bangladeshi users, enables those who share one mobile device to access each of their accounts, said a press release.

imo also stated that while smartphone use is rising in Bangladesh, it is still common for family members to share one mobile phone.

imo launched this feature to meet the demand of their users: according to a user survey conducted by imo, nearly 64% of Bangladeshi imo users that identify as parents do not have their own smartphone, and 49% of imo users share phones.

The feature can be accessed by clicking the new “Switch Account” tab in the “Me” setting page. Adding a new account requires OTP verification to ensure account safety.

Last year, over 96 billion messages and 26 billion audio and video calls were made through Bangladeshi imo users.

Imo said that their increased popularity is due to their “data efficiency and strong stability even under weak network connectivity … [saving] more than 20-30% of data compared to other apps.”

In 2020, Bangladeshi imo users saved up to 150 million gigabytes of data in video and audio calls, and imo hopes this new feature will increase accessibility.
