Cabinet purchase committee approves 5 proposals

The Cabinet Committee on Public Purchase in a virtual meeting on Wednesday approved five proposals, including one for setting up a 15 MW Heavy Fuel Oil (HFO) fired power plant in Hatiya island of Noakhali and another for installing 40,000 solar home systems (SHS) in three hill districts.

Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal presided over the online meeting.

According to a proposal of the Power Division, Desh Energy will set up the 15 MW power plant at Hatiya Island from which the state-owned Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) will purchase electricity for over the next 15 years.

The levelized tariff of each kilowatt hour of electricity was set at US Cents 12.1042 and the government has to spend Tk1,396.15 crore in the next 15 years to purchase the power from the plant.           

The Parbatya Chattagram Unnayan Board (PCUB) under the Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs Ministry will set up 40,000 solar home systems, each having 100-watt peak voltage, and 2,500 community solar system, each having 320-watt peak voltage, at the three hill districts.

The PCUB will purchase the entire solar home systems from BGB Welfare Trust at a cost of Tk204.37 crore.

Briefing reporters virtually after the meeting, Additional Secretary of the Cabinet Division Sahida Akter said the CCGP also approved a variation of the proposal for the construction of 3rd and 4th dual gauge lines along the Dhaka-Tongi section and dual gauge double line along the Tongi-Joydevpur section, being implemented by the Bangladesh Railway.

The committee approved additional Tk16.03 crore for increasing the tenure of the joint venture organization, Aarvee Associates Architects Engineers and Consultants Private and Ayesa Ingenieria Y Arquitectura of India for up to 36 months instead of 24 months, she added.

She said the committee also approved another proposal involving Tk67.30 crore for the construction of Lot No-1 under the “Construction of Narsingdi District Jail” project.

Noorani Construction will implement the construction, she added.

The committee also approved the proposal involving Tk124.31 crore for the construction works of the WD-1 package under the “Expansion of National Institute of Neuroscience and Hospital” project.

Wahid Construction will implement the construction.

The CCGP also approved a cancelation proposal of the Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (RAJUK) under the Public Works Ministry for constructing 104 buildings with 16 stories under the “Construction of apartments for low and middle-income people in Uttara Sector 16, Dhaka” project.
