Bidi workers have formed a human chain against the hiking of tax on the bidi industry in front of the residence of Abu Hena Md Rahmatul Muneem, chairman, National Board of Revenue (NBR) in Sirajganj.
The workers who hailed from different districts, including Rangpur, Sirajganj and Pabna, gathered before the NBR chairman’s house on Tuesday to press home their demand immediately, said a press release.
They also surrounded the house for about two hours and submitted a memorandum to the NBR chairman to save their livelihoods by running the bidi industry after decreasing extra tax imputed on the fiscal year 2020-2021.
Bangladesh Bidi Sramik Federation Central President MK Bangali, Executive President Amin Uddin, Central Joint- Secretary and Pabna Bidi Majur Union President Herik Hossain , Narayanganj district Bidi Sramik Federation President and central committee Publication Secretary Sirazul Islam, Sirajganj district Bidi Sramik Union President Md Amjad Hossain , and its General Secretary Akbar Ali, among others, were present in the program.
