Hotel Metro International in Sylhet on Sunday announced it is shutting down in an effort to curb the spread of coronavirus.
Speaking at a press conference on the hotel premises, its managing director Mizanur Rahman Payel said the decision to shut down was made considering the health risks posed to its guests, staff, and locals.
He said 70 of the hotel's staff were paid for 15 days, along with an adequate supply of masks and hand sanitizers.
Mizanur also said some instructions were given to hotel officials and staff to prevent the spread of coronavirus.
"Everyone has to stay home during the holidays and stay away from friends and all kinds of gatherings. During the hotel’s closure, it will be kept completely clean and hygienic. Upon reopening, the staff will be trained to keep everyone aware about probable symptoms of the virus and to prevent its spread. In the event of coronavirus infection of a family member of an employee, we will provide financial support," he said.
When the hotel reopens, in order to minimize public gatherings, lunch will be provided separately for all staff. Everyone will be provided hand gloves, masks and hand wash as well, the owner added.
