Around 75% of youths in the country are now taking short training in computer to get job fast, finds a survey study conducted by the Brac Skills Development Program.
The survey report was revealed in an event at the National Skills Development Authority (NSDA) office in the capital.
The survey was carried out over 1,232 youths from 10 districts of Dhaka, Chittagong and Sylhet divisions.
It also found trainings in tailoring, electrical works and handicrafts were popular, apart from the computer. But most of the youths receive the trainings in informal way, the study mentions.
A 46.2% of the youths said they chose technical and vocational education and training (TVET) for getting jobs quickly while 19.3% for gaining some technical knowledge and 12.6% for self employment.
The study, however, found that that only 11% of the youths had scope of availing TVETs in their own educational institutions.
The Brac survey said the number of the TVET recipients was increasing with the increased rate of their parental education.
Prime Minister's Principal Secretary Ahmad Kaikaus, Deputy Head of Mission of the Embassy of Denmark Refika Hayta, and NSDA Executive Chairman Golam Md Hashibul Alam were also present in the event.
