Crop yield has multiplied per hectare compared to previous years in Kushtia, according to the district's Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) statistics.
Around 2.57 metric tons of rice was cultivated in 2008-09, which jumped by 31.5% to 3.38 metric tons in 2016-17.
In 2018-19, rice was cultivated on 148,435 hectares, which resulted in a yield of 500,859 metric tons.
Around 2.38 metric tons of wheat was cultivated in 2008-09, which jumped by 51% to 3.60 metric tons in 2016-17.
In 2018-19, wheat was cultivated on 9,295 hectares, which resulted in a yield of 36,250 metric tons.
Around 6.03 metric tons of maize was cultivated in 2008-09, which jumped by 76% to 10.60 metric tons in 2016-17.
In 2018-19, wheat was cultivated on 8,475 hectares, which resulted in a yield of 90,370 metric tons.
Around 1.26 metric tons of mustard was cultivated in 2008-09, which jumped by 19% to 1.50 metric tons in 2016-17.
Around 1.24 metric tons of pulses were cultivated in 2008-09, which jumped by 27% to 1.57 metric tons in 2016-17.
In 2018-19, pulses were cultivated on 18,095 hectares, which resulted in a yield of 26,651 metric tons.
In 2018-19, spices were cultivated on 5,915 hectares, which resulted in a yield of 8.06 metric tons.
In 2008-09, vegetables were cultivated on 8,875 hectares, which resulted in a yield of 133,168 metric tons. This increased to 234,525 metric tons in 2016-17 and 204,000 metric tons in 2018-19.
Thanks to elevated land and its loamy poly content, the farmlands in Kushtia are always preferred by its farmers to grow multiple crops such as rice, wheat, maize, mustard, sesame, peanut, pulse, chili, onion, garlic and more, said Ranjan Kumar, additional deputy director of Kushtia DAE office.
He added that the government has already distributed adequate seedlings, fertilizers, pesticides and different agriculture ingredients among the farmers. Besides, different commercial bank distributed necessary loans facility among the farmers.
"Our office also provides farmers with logistical support, technical knowledge and farming-related advice, which has helped them to grow multiple crops on arable lands, elevating their revenue streams in the process," Ranjan also said.
