Planning minister urges UK investors to invest in power, education sectors

Planning Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal on Tuesday urged the United Kingdom’s private sector to invest in Bangladesh’s power, rail, and education sectors to capitalize on its investment-friendly environment.

The Planning Minister made the urge when a UK delegation led by Her Majesty’s Trade Commissioner for India and South Asia Crispin Simon met him at his office. UK High Commissioner to Dhaka Alison Blake was also present at the meeting, said a press release.

Kamal said Bangladesh has been experiencing demographic dividend and it will continue till 2061 while the youth-folk of the country are being provided with various training to build them as skilled workforce.

Highlighting the latest investment environment of the country to the UK delegation, Kamal said some 100 special economic zones are being established across the country, while the government has been removing various obstacles towards simplifying investment as well as maintaining a business-friendly environment.

The planning minister also requested Simon to send a business delegation to Bangladesh.

In response, Simon lauded the private sector of the country, and praised the government’s trade policy and steps towards attracting more Foreign Direct Investment (FDI).

Simon also assured the Planning Minister that he would inform the UK’s private sector about the bright potentials of Bangladesh especially in the education, railway and the power sectors including in solar power.
