CCCI urges Canada to invest in 2 economic zones of Ctg

Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) on Tuesday urged Canada to invest in the two under-construction economic zones of Chittagong.

The CCCI President Mahbubul Alam made the urge during a view exchange meeting with Corinne Petrisor, Counsellor (Commercial Affairs) and Senior Trade Commissioner of Canada.

The meeting was held at the CCCI office at the World Trade Centre in the port city.

Underscoring the need to diversify the export items of Bangladesh, Mahbubul Alam said, "Bangladesh imports a substantial quantity of food grains including pulse and wheat from Canada while Canada is one of the importers of our readymade garments. Bangladesh-Canada trade relations will be strengthened further if the trade is done without any third party. "

"There is a good trade relation between the two countries. However, the investment of Canada in Bangladesh is paltry," said the CCCI President.

Corinne Petrisor in her speech said that they were working for strengthening the trade relations between the two countries.

"Business-to-business relation is very important in bolstering trade relations," she said.

The Chinese Economic and Industrial Zone is being constructed over an area of around 774 acres in Anwara upazila while Mirsarai Economic Zone is being set up over an area of 30,000 acres in Chittagong.
