Bangladesh has a great potential for the establishment and growth of UK businesses, which would help the country achieve its Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), Chairman of British Business Group (BBG) and CEO of HSBC Francoise De Maricourt said at a breakfast event co-hosted by the British High Commissioner to Bangladesh Alison Blake on September 19.
The prime minister's Principal Coordinator for SDG Md Abul Kalam Azad was the chief guest, where he spoke about the economic and development progress of Bangladesh, and hoped that the country will attain middle income status by 2021, and a developed country status by 2041. Azad mentioned initiatives the government has been taking, such as One Stop Service, to improve the business environment.
Azad urged British businesses to invest in the infrastructure, logistics, power and energy, RMG, pharmaceuticals, ICT and financial sectors. He praised BBG for being a strong partner for Bangladesh. Meanwhile, the British high commissioner said that growth for UK-Bangladesh trade would help in Bangladesh's future development.
Other guests such as members of BBG, representatives from the Department of International Trade (DFID) and the British High Commission were present during the event.
