Huawei, one of the world’s leading technology giants, has launched its global flagship Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program “Seeds for the Future” in Bangladesh.
The program, which will select 10 top students from five renowned universities of the country, kicked off with a press conference at Huawei’s Customer Solution Innovation and Integration Experience Center (CSIC) in Dhaka’s Gulshan Avenue on Monday.
Starting in 2008, organizers said “Seeds for the Future” has been implemented in 96 countries and various international organizations worldwide, benefiting over 30,000 students from 280 universities. Among them, more than 2,700 university students have taken a study trip to the Huawei headquarters.
Jerry Wang, chief technical officer for Huawei Technologies Limited in Bangladesh, said: “We are extremely delighted to bring “Seeds for the Future” to the emerging ICT talents across Bangladesh. This program allows 10 students (seeds) to develop their ICT skills, gain practical international work experience, and receive an introduction to Chinese language and culture that will prepare them for an increasingly interconnected global job market.
“I believe that these students will grow and contribute to the creation of Digital Bangladesh,” he said.
In order to help cultivate ICT talents in Bangladesh, and provide an opportunity for students to learn more about state-of-the-art ICT technology and experience the Chinese culture, Huawei will select 10 top students from five noted universities in Bangladesh, the tech giant stated.
The universities selected this year are – Dhaka University (DU), Bangladesh University of Engineering & Technology (Buet), Islamic University of Technology (IUT), Khulna University of Engineering & Technology (Kuet), and Rajshahi University of Engineering & Technology (Ruet).
For the selection of the top 10 students, Huawei’s team of experts, along with a panel of judges will visit these five universities and select the two best students from each university, they added.
After the students are selected, they will be sent to China in the second week of September 2018 for two weeks in order to give them a comprehensive experience of Chinese culture and technology, according to the organizers.
Huawei's Head of Human Resources Thouhidul Hassan and Public Relations Manager Abu Jahid Parag were present at the press conference.
