The government has awarded 63 companies with National Export Trophy for their extraordinary contribution to exports for the fiscal 2014-15.
Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed handed over gold, silver and bronze trophies under different categories to the winners at a ceremony yesterday.
At the function, trophies were awarded to the companies under 28 product categories where Zaber and Zobair Fabrics Limited received the gold trophy as the best exporting company for its highest export earnings in fiscal 2014-15, reports UNB.
Export Promotion Bureau organized the program at Osmani Memorial Auditorium in Dhaka.
The gold medals were awarded to 28 companies, silver to 20 and bronze to 14.

The 62 companies received gold, silver and bronze trophies under different categories, including woven garments, yarn, textile fabrics, home textile, terry towel, frozen foods, raw jute, jute goods, finished leather, leather goods, footwear, agricultural products, agro-processed products, handicrafts, plastic products, electric and electronics products etc.
“Its a great initiative that recognizes our hard work and the contribution we make to the economy which motivates me to do even better,” said winner of the silver trophy Syed M Tanvir of director Pacific Jeans.
He attributes his success to maintaining good practices of sustainable business, product quality, punctuality, professionalism and marketing.

“National Export Trophy is given to the exporters from different categories for their extraordinary contribution to the economy. However exporters from the EPZs are currently not recognized in a similar way, which is why we have decided on principle to include EPZs' exporters in the award list from now,” said Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed.
The minister highlighted the role of the business community in developing the economy. The government is fully committed to ensuring a business friendly environment.
Stressing on export diversification, the Federation of Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) president Shafiul Islam Mohiuddin said we must start looking beyond the RMG sector for export growth.
FBCCI president also said that it was important that banks bring down the interest rates to single digits fearing that many will default on their loans if that does not happen.
To ensure a sustainable growth of the export trend, the FBCCI president also stressed the need for ensuring supply of electricity and energy to the traders at affordable price and adopting innovative technologies to develop the sector.
Tofail Ahmed said that in making Bangladesh economy more vibrant, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has declared 100 Special Economic Zones will be set up. “By the year 2030, Bangladesh will be 28th economy in the world and we taking initiatives to move towards this.”
Vice-Chairman of EPB Bijoy Bhattacharjee, Commerce Secretary Shubhashish Bose and President of Parliamentary Standing Committee on Commerce Ministry Md Tajul Islam, among others, spoke on the occasion.
